ESQHYA Meeting

Holiday Inn, Waterloo

 

Meeting was called to order at 11:01am.

 

Absent officers and directors include Todd Bednarek, Kristen Williams, Amanda Wendt, Danielle Hannifin, and Ashlee Streeter. 

 

Previous meeting minutes were read and approved. 

Regina Kernin presented Jordan Edwards with the Novice Youth All-Around from the fall show. 

Treasurer’s Report: $14,114.28.

 

Committee Reports:

    Fundraising:

o   $500 total profit from the scooter raffled off at the Fall Show

o   We still have our E-Bay item as a 2007 fundraiser

o   We should discuss having an auction at the convention

o   $12,116.69 total monies raised in fundraising.

    Budget: Ed Brenkus is currently working on the budget for 2008.  The budget for year end awards is $4,000.00.  Ed would really like us to stay well under this if at all possible.

    Judging:  The judging team placed 19th overall at the Congress.  Tyler Steinhilber placed 40th individually and Amanda Wendt placed 55th with 101 contestants and 27 teams.  In our halter division, the team placed 19th, with Tyler Steinhilber placing 30th individually.  In the performance classes, the team placed 15th, with Amanda Wendt placing 27th individually.  Empire QH was also represented at Congress in the Horse Bowl contest, placing 11th overall, with 25 teams competing.

 

Old Business:

    Congress:  We had nice weather.  The Judging team uniforms were sponsored by Missie Butler.  The Performance team uniforms were sponsored by Hilary Huttleston’s grandparents Marion and Dave Moore.  The team placed 14th overall with 77 teams and 501 participants.  Todd Bednarek placed 3rd in the Reining. 

    Region 5 Convention:  Rebecca Allen, Zac Clark, Megan Hunsinger, Lauren Tousley will attend with Mrs. Allen as the chaperone.  ESQHYA will pay the registration cost for two people an the chaperone.

 

New Business:

    We will collect toys for tots as our community service project in December.  Please bring your donations to the meeting. 

    Convention: Lisa Williams will check with Sue Bednarek about having Bill Hopkins as our auctioneer.  Motion made by Erica Wilson seconded by Lauren Tousley to pay for the auctioneer and guests dinner at the Convention.  Motion carried.  Missie Butler will donate $100 towards having someone come and direct karaoke at the convention.  Mrs. Allen will buy their dinner.  Motion made by Rebecca Allen seconded by Erica Wilson to have someone set up and direct karaoke at eh convention.  Motion carried. 

    Year End Awards:  Missie needs to talk to Reina about who made the required shows.  She will have the list soon.  Please send ideas for awards you would like to Rebecca Allen.  Mrs. Allen and Rebecca will call to see what all qualifiers would like, so please make sure you return the call. 

    Bylaw Changes:

Article XI: AQHYA World Show Team

Section 1:  Team Members

ESQHYA may send four youth per World Show event as state qualifiers in addition to its national qualifiers.  It is ESQHYA’s goal to fill as many of those state spots as possible from its existing membership as of May 1 of that calendar year.  This will be accomplished per SECTION 3 State Qualifying Requirements and SECTION 2 State Qualifying Chart.  Motion made by Rebecca Allen seconded by Allison Schaffer.

 

Section 5: Funding Procedure

ESQHYA will pay entry fees and stall rentals for all World Team Members.  In order for a national qualifier’s stall and entry fees to be paid at the World Show by ESQHYA, that qualifier must be an active member in good standing of ESQHYA, attend three meeting by July 1, participate in fundraising, work hours at shows, participate in the community service and show in at least one Youth Show.  Additionally, such costs as costumes for Parade of States, fan rentals, and other general expenses will be covered dependent on ESQHYA financial conditions.  All of the aforementioned items will be given first priority in the funding process and will be subtracted out of the approved amount before individual funding begins.  Motion made by Jordan Edwards seconded by Megan Hunsinger.  Motion carried.

Nominations closed.

Rebecca Allen nominated Linda Wendt as Youth Advisor.  Linda declined.  Megan Hunsinger nominated Laurie Allen as Youth Advisor.  Nominations for Youth Advisor are closed.

 

Announcements:

    Missie was contacted by AQHA regarding a rodeo team being started in New York.  If anyone is interested contact Missie.

 

A motion was made by Nicole Thomas seconded by Lauren Tousley to adjourn the meeting at 12:07pm.
